Holiday Charity Donation

This holiday season Kaufman Orthodontics has selected Camp Good Days & Special Times to share in some holiday cheer! Sadly, most of us have known someone with cancer and would agree it is devastating when a child has been diagnosed with cancer. Therefore to help out this special group, we will donate a portion of all replacement retainer fees and broken bracket fees to this great organization. We will also be collecting donations at our office. As a thank you for any donation, we will hang a snowflake with your name on it up in our office!
Ask us for more information at your next appointment!
Happy Holidays!

October is National Orthodontic Month!

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that a certified orthodontist, such as Dr. Kaufman, evaluate all children by the age of seven. While most children at this age are not ready to begin full orthodontic treatment, many young patients have traumatic bites or abnormal growth problems that can be treated much easier if diagnosed early.

Much is happening with a child’s dental development during this time, and we want children to be aware of how their current dental health will have an impact on their future, overall health and well being. Developing good oral health habits at this age will benefit their lives.

Our Patient Appreciation Party 2009 was a Grand Slam!!

On August 1st, 2009, we held our annual patient appreciation party. Dr. Kaufman provided tickets to a Rochester Red Wings game to his patients and their families, and entertained them between the innings with some prizes and give-aways! It was an awesome night for a baseball game, and a perfect way to thank all of our patients for making our jobs so fun. Thank you to all of our patient families who attended our patient appreciation party!

KEEP YOUR SMILE SAFE

With summer in full swing, it's the perfect time to discuss safety, particulary for your teeth. We here at Kaufman Orthodontics have already seen several sports related accidents, some quite serious, and all which could have been avoided by using mouthguards. Dr. Kaufman reccomends mouthguards for ALL sports, regardless of if you have braces or not. If you do have braces, and need a mouth guard, please call us and ask for one, or ask us at your next visit, and we will happily provide you with one that is meant for atheletes with braces. If you do not have braces, you may purchase one at any sporting goods store. The "Shock Doctor" is a great mouth guard, and is available at many local sporting goods stores. You can check them out at www.shockdoctor.com and find a store near you that sells them.
We can't stress enough the importance of keeping your smile safe. Please don't have your summer ruined by an accident that could have easily been avoided. Please use a mouth guard and make sure your friends are using them too!

Thanks again,
Dr. Kaufman and Team

WELCOME TO SUMMER!

It is finally summer. Sort of. The calendar says it is summer, but the weather seems not to agree. Hopefully, the sunshine and hot days will be here soon. And, of course, we all love summer here at Kaufman Orthodontics. So, in celebration of the season, we are inviting you all to our patient appreciation party, as a thank you to our patients and their families for making our office the best Orthodontic office anywhere. On August 1st, we will have our party at Frontier Field for a Rochester Red Wings baseball game. Please call our office to reserve your COMPLEMENTARY tickets, (4 per family, friends are welcome) and please act quickly, because tickets are limited. What a better way to celebrate summer than to spend an evening at the ballpark on us. We will also be having give aways, gifts, and prizes. One lucky patient or family member will also be selected to throw out the first pitch, AND, another patient will be picked to be an official bat boy/ bat girl; you will actually be able to be part of the team! So, please call us at 424-6400 to reserve your tickets soon, and remember, at Kaufman Orthodontics, "Teamwork Creates Winning Smiles!" Lets go cheer on another hometown team on August 1st- hope to see you all there!

Thanks again,

Dr. Kaufman and Team

Thank You !

Dr. Kaufman and his Team would like to thank everyone who participated in raising funds for the Protulipac Family over the last two months. We were overwhelmed by the generosity from our patients and families, as well as our friends in the dental community who purchased tickets or generously made a donation for the family. Dr. Kaufman was honored to pass along your sympathies to the Protulipac family, along with a monetary contribution of over $2,500 in raised funds.

Congratulations to our patient A.J. Morley, who is the new owner of the autographed Tom Brady (New England Patriots) Jersey!

Thanks Again,
Dr. Kaufman & Team

Damon Forum

Recently, some of my team members and myself attended the Damon Forum. The Damon Forum is a yearly educational meeting where hundreds of Damon orthodontists and their team members get together to discuss the most modern techniques for treating our patients to achieve the best and most functional smiles possible.

Dr. Dwight Damon, the creator of this amazing braces system kicks off each meeting and teaches us all the new and unique innovations that he and his team are working on. He reviewed the newest brace system called the DQ Damon brace. This brace is smaller than the last bracket system and has a number of upgrades over the last brace in both design and function. We have been using this new and improved DQ brace now and can tell you it is just awesome.

Dr. Kaufman with the one and only Dr. Dwight Damon

While we were there, we also attended a number of courses dealing with improving the esthetics of our patient’s smiles. I went to a bracket placement course, taught by Dr. Tom Pitts (second to Dr. Damon, the most experienced Damon practitioner in the country). Dr. Pitts taught us a whole new way to place the front teeth brackets to improve the smile and make it appear more broad and beautiful.

We also went to numerous other courses focused on clinical efficiency. Essentially, this is the best treatment methods to treat our patients with fewer visits and ultimately finish our patients faster with the best results possible. Bracket placement, early rubber band use and using a certain wire sequence was highlighted during the seminar, and we have implemented many of these ideas into our office and we are already seeing tremendous results.

The Damon Forum is one of the most interesting and informative lectures of the year. Most of you already know about the advantages of the Damon System such as:
1. Less visits—shorter treatment times
2. No tightening
3. Less discomfort
4. Rarely ever do we need to extract teeth
5. No Headgear
6. Cleaner (less chance of scars and marks)
7. Beautiful, broad smiles (the ultimate advantage)

Since I have begun using the Damon System I have been amazed at the results and the speed of which the system works. I believe this if the most effective system I have ever used, and as always will continue to give my patients the best treatments available.

Your partner in smiles,

Dr. Kaufman

Are all braces the same?

With the Damon System, we don't just align the teeth. We create beautiful smiles accounting for a patient's face, profile and other factors in anticipating what they will look like in their 40's, 50's and beyond. Damon braces deliver results for a life time.

What are These New Braces Dr. Kaufman Is So Excited About...

Over the years there have not been a lot of new innovations in brace technology that has made me very excited. However, that has all changed. Recently, our office has switched to a new type of brace called the Damon 3 bracket. We are proud to say we are the FIRST office in Rochester exclusively using this system for our patients. This bracket is unbelievable. It has all the benefits we could ask for and finally it is here.

Why would an orthodontist blog?

I am writing this blog to help any of you that have heard that you or a family member requires braces or orthodontic treatment. I am an orthodontist in Rochester, NY and have been practicing for almost 20 years. In that time I have treated over 10 thousand patients and created not only beautiful smiles but happier more confident patients. Throughout these years, I have realized that orthodontic treatment can be overwhelming especially if it is your first time at the orthodontist. So my goal is to try and make sense of some of the more common problems and treatments that we see in our office and answer some of the most common questions that we hear from our patients and parents. I will address things such as early treatment, common malocclusions (bite problems), to extract teeth or not, retainers, and many other orthodontic issues. So keep checking back and hopefully I will be able to give you some extra information to help you make your orthodontic decisions easier. You can also visit our website for even more information at www.toothmover.com.
